The Shadowlands Ghosthunter Store

Equipment currently used by NEARPS

There is a large variety of equipment used by numerous teams across the country. Opinions on how important each piece of equipment is to paranormal research varies among the individual teams. You can read more about this here.

At present we use night vision video, digital voice recorder and digital still photography with flash along with EMF and temperature sensing devices.

Of these pieces of equipment, by and large the most valuable tool in our investigations is the digital voice recorder.  We have captured many EVPs of varying quality but all are truly remarkable!  On one occasion we had the spirit of a young boy named Eric (yes, he told us.  Look for this evidence elsewhere in the site) interacting and commenting on what we were doing at the time and answering questions that were being asked him during the EVP session!

Here is our small list of current equipment:

Laptop computer -- very useful for collecting audio and video data from the memory of cameras and digital voice recorders.  Collecting the data all on one hard drive makes it easier to keep together and not miss analyzing anything.

4 channel wireless camera receiver 2.4 Ghz with audio

4 channel dvr system with audio

MEL-8704 EMF / Ambient Air Temperature sensing device

3 2.4 Ghz wireless infrared cameras with built in microphones -- We use wireless because it lessens the amount of time it takes to set up and take down the system at an investigation site.

Cell Sensor EMF detector

3 RCA  Digital Voice Recorders

Sony DCR-DVD308 mini dvd camcorder with night vision

Sony HVL-HIRL Infrared camcorder light--greatly enhances the night vision range of the camera.

Vivitar Vivicam 5386 5.0 megapixel still digital camera with flash

Kodak Easyshare c813 8.2 megapixel still digital camera with flash

mx-600 camera tripod

numerous rechargeable batteries size AA and AAA

Various hard and soft cases to transport and store equipment in

House and Vehicle chargers for the batteries listed above.

Extension cords of various lengths for powering equipment that is not battery operated

5500 watt Gasoline Powered Generator for remote locations where generator noise can be isolated so as not to contaminate our audio recordings.  Also useful for power outages due to an ice storm or some other natural disaster.

Several flashlights of various sizes

Several cans of mosquito and bug repellant (important during summer months).  We wish this would come unscented so as not to mask any possible paranormal smells.  We avoid using it if at all possible.

I know this list is not nearly as remarkable as some teams possess.  However, you must keep in mind that paranormal investigating pays nothing  (donations are accepted and appreciated but absolutely NOT required) and acquiring a large arsenal of equipment takes time when funding comes out of your personal household budget.  Keep in mind that Jay and Grant from the hit tv show "Ghost Hunters"  probably wouldn't  have the amount of equipment they do today if Sci-Fi wasn't picking up at least part of the tab.  The point is that it won't matter how much equipment we have once you see and hear what we have caught with it!
