Psi-Theory Basics

Psi-Theory is not a new theory. Parapsychologist and paranormal author Loyd Auerbach is currently one of the best known proponents of Psi-theory, but he is quick to point out that it is not a theory that he came up with or discovered. There are whole books on Psi-Theory, but what follows is an article that highlights some of the main points of Psi-Theory, and how it applies to encounters between the living and the dead.

IS A GHOST "ENERGY?"

Loyd Auerbach's theory is based on the idea that when the body dies, all that is left behind is the "mind." Or you might call this the "consciousness." Or the "psi." "Psi" is defined at that unknown portion of each person that allows them to know things they have no natural way of knowing. "Psi" is a codeword for that part of each person that allows us to have ESP, precognition, and to perceive the paranormal.

I wouldn't necessarily say that the "mind" or "psi" is made of energy though. We can not predictably detect or measure energy during paranormal activity. When a person dies, there is no scientific equipment on earth that can detect, sense, or measure the "mind" or "consciousness" leaving the body. This suggests that the "consciousness" is either made of a type of energy we cannot detect or understand...or that the "consciousness" is made of something completely other than energy.

SO WHAT IS A GHOST MADE OF?

If "consciousness" is not necessarily made of energy, then what is is made of? If anyone on earth knew the answer to this question, then we would have solved the paranormal puzzle by now. We don't know what its made of. We don't understand it. We have not a clue.

We know that when "consciousness" survives a living body it is something intangible. Undetectable. Mysterious. Unexplained. immeasurable. Loyd Auerbach's theory suggests that just as a living person has "psi," and this is what allows a living person to have ESP, precognition, remote-viewing, travel outside the body, etc...the same goes for the "psi" of a dead person. Essentially, a "consciousness" that survives the death of its body is pure "psi."

HOW DO GHOSTS SEE, HEAR, AND MOVE THINGS?

So, according to psi-theory, a ghost hears, sees, and moves things without physicality...in the same way that a living person uses its "psi." Without eyes, the ghost see's things with its pure mind. Without ears, the ghost hears things with its pure mind. Without a body, it moves things with its pure mind. Its "psi."

This suggests that a ghost does not hear our words or speak to us out loud, but instead communicates directly with our mind. The ghost hears our thoughts...and communicates its thoughts to us. We perceive this mind-to-mind thought transmission as sound, because that's what makes sense to us. That's what fits our paradigm. We perceive "visual" information about the ghost as something we are seeing with our eyes, because that's also what fits our paradigm.

When we "see" a ghost, we are not seeing it with our physical eyes...we are seeing what the ghost is communicating to us mind-to-mind. Picture yourself sitting on a bench in the park. Seriously...take a minute, and picture yourself sitting on a park bench. O.K. Did you picture it?

Were you wearing clothes in your mental image of yourself on the park bench? Most likely you did. Did you picture your feet or what you were wearing on your feet? Most likely you didn't.

If a ghost allows us to "see" it by communicating mind-to-mind, we see the ghost as it sees itself. We see how it pictures itself. This is the answer to the age old question of why ghosts wear clothes. Obviously a consciousness or soul does not have clothes. But if we perceive the ghost as it perceives itself...then we picture it wearing clothes, just as your mental image of yourself on the park bench was wearing clothes.

Additionally, most reports of those that see ghosts...if the question is asked...will admit that they did not see the ghosts lower legs or feet. Think back on your mental image of yourself sitting on the park bench. Did you picture your feet? Most people don't. If we are perceiving the ghost as it pictures itself, and the ghost does not have a mental image of its feet...then we would not perceive feet...or the lower part of the ghost's legs.

When and if a ghost moves something, it is moving it with its "psi." Moving it with its pure mind. Psychokinesis is the scientific term for this. Most hauntings do not involve things being moved...and we can imagine that moving something with your mind only is a very difficult thing to do. Most living people cannot do it, and its likely that even for a being made of pure "mind" or "psi," might have difficulty doing this as well.

PHOTOS AND VIDEO

As for photos and video, since ghosts have no physicality, and do not reflect light waves, etc...then a camera, which depends on light waves, could not capture them as a visual element of the photo. So Psi-Theory's concept of capturing a ghost on film can be explained in three ways according to Loyd Auerbach:

1. The ghost uses its mental abilities...its psi...to alter the film or digital medium in such a way that the ghost appears in the image that is captured.

2. The photographer, perceiving the ghost with his/her psi...uses his/her own psi to subconsciously alter the film or digital medium in such a way that the ghost appears in the image that is captured.

3. The ghost and photographer, somehow working together, use their psi collectively to alter the film or digital medium in some way that the ghost appears in the image that is captured.

If it is the photographer himself that is altering the film or digital medium in order to create the authentic ghost photograph, then we can assume that some people would be better at doing this than others. Therefore some paranormal investigators would be more likely to capture ghost photos than others.

But I would add a caution. I cannot say that I have ever been shown a photograph that was conclusively (or even convincingly) an authentic ghost photograph. Photographic errors and anomalies are so common...as are cases of outright fraud...that I do not believe I have ever seen an authentic ghost photograph.

CONCLUSION

Psi-theory, as explained by Loyd Auerbach, can be a hard thing to get your mind wrapped around. We are so focused on the physical world and our physical senses, that the idea that we are not seeing ghost with our physical eyes or hearing ghosts with our physical ears is just hard to accept.

But considering the fact that ghosts are intangible...how would we see them with our physical eyes? And considering they have no vocal chords, how would we hear them with our physical ears? And considering they have no physical bodies, how could they move physical objects?

The fact that ghosts are pure mind, it seems to follow that all of our interactions with them are purely mind-based...and bypass physicality altogether.-- Mark Stinson,  Ghost Vigil Investigations
